On Monday 29 April 2024, The Other Force website launched to support skilling and employment in Western Australia’s defence industry, critical to economic diversification and job creation in the state. Read the full media statement here.

The Other Force website is a key initiative from the $11 million investment announced in Western Australia’s State Budget 2022–23 to grow the professional and paraprofessional workforce in the defence industry, building on previous investments to boost Western Australia's defence industry capabilities.

Key features

1.    Support for students and career changers
Ready for an exciting career change and new challenge? The new website supports students and career changers looking to ‘Start Something’ in WA’s defence industry, with training and employment information.

An occupation spotlight showcases the exciting and rewarding priority jobs available to Western Australians, across all five defence capability domains: land, air, maritime, space and information and cyber.

There’s multiple free and reduced fee courses available in this priority sector, in areas like cyber security, autonomous operations and engineering. View the Course list for more.

Students who have completed vocational education and training (VET) qualifications are encouraged to use the VET Steps to Uni digital resource to fast-track their pathway to a university degree in a defence-related field.

2.    Western Australian defence industry employers
Stay up to date with the latest information on training and employment support; good news stories from students, veterans and employers; and announcements related to Defence and Western Australian industries that support key projects and incentives through the Latest news portal.

There are multiple programs and financial incentives available to support defence industry employers in growing their workforce.

3.    Assistance for Australian Defence Force veterans
Continue to support Australia's national interest while you learn and grow with new opportunities as part of WA's defence industry. A $5,000 Defence Industry Veterans Employment Scheme scholarship is available to support veterans transitioning into the defence industry.
